I had almost forgotten that I had a blog. It's been a while since I have been inspired to write. I was just remembering the day in 7th grade I was cool...
I was a disrespectful, self-absorbed, punk 7th grader who felt that the world was created to revolve around me yet at the same time to cause me misery. Sounds like a merry existence doesn't it? But, I was cool for one day.
For weeks I had been begging my mom to get a second hole pierced in my ears and the consistent answer was "No," so after a while I gave up on that battle.
My mom and I had gone out to dinner at an Italian restaurant called Pete's Place in the basement of the Grand Hyatt in Singapore. It was my favorite. So anyway, after dinner my mom and I were walking around a department store called Tang's on Orchard Road. We cruised past the jewellery department and my mom asked me if I wanted to get my ears pierced. What??? She was the one who brought it up. I was floored. Who knew my mom was so hip.
So, I don't really remember a whole lot about getting them pierced, but I do remember the next day at school. I was the only one of my friends that had a second hole in my ears and I was COOL! Of course the next day all the girls came in with 2 or 3 or 5 holes, so my day in the spotlight was over. But, for one day I was cool!!! Who knew my mom would be the one who would be the one to initiate my coolness?
On a supplementary note about my second hole:
That summer I came back to the states and we went to visit my aunt and uncle. My uncle freaked out! So the next summer when we pulled into his driveway my mom had purchased several magnetic/clip-on earrings. I got out of the car with a fake nose ring and a couple hoops in my ears. I could see him trying not to freak out. Then my brother got out with earrings in his ears. Finally, my grandma got out with a nose ring with a chain that attached to an earring...so the joke was up. Ah, the antics of my mother.

Haha Katy you're one day ahead of me--I was never, EVER cool in middle school. In fact, good thing we didn't meet until high school or I would have been SO drastically uncool that no amount of holes in my ears would have gotten you to be friends with me. :)
